Firebird Window Display

In June 2013, I was delighted to construct a window display for Vanessa, owner of local vintage shop Wanderlust. Since it was the start of summer, I was inspired to create a 3D version of one of my creations-- so I designed a firebird type creature and set him within a woodland space alongside vintage clothes and some of my own goods, including a set of lavender sachets made from three new textile patterns.

A true labor of love, the firebird was constructed with a wire framework and covered with paper mache and hundreds of handpainted paper feathers. His head was a gourd, and his plumage was made with coffee filters and paper towels dip-dyed to create a fiery headpiece and tail.  Flowers, barnacles and moss also were created from paper, crepe paper, and paper clay.
